The Atlanta Hawks are roughly two months out from their season opener against the New York Knicks. This offseason, Atlanta has made a few additions to their roster in the second year of their rebuild.

Atlanta Hawks: 2018 Summer Review

During the 2018 NBA Draft, the Atlanta Hawks started off by trading the number three overall pick to the Dallas Mavericks in return for the fifth pick which would turn into the acquisition of Trae Young. With the No.19 pick, the Hawks selected Kevin Huerter.

Atlanta would close out the night by selecting Omari Spellman with the 30th overall pick. Some Hawks fans struggled to accept the results of the draft or look on the bright side. Throughout free agency, the Hawks remained relatively quiet.

July 12th, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Hawks had acquired Jeremy Lin in a trade with the Brooklyn Nets.  A few days later Atlanta acquired Carmelo Anthony, in a three-team trade that sent Dennis Schroder to the Oklahoma City Thunder, per CBS Sports.

Obviously, Anthony reached a buyout with Hawks management and went on to sign with the Houston Rockets. The last notable free agent addition for the Hawks this summer was the terrific signing of Vince Carter to a 1-year, $2.4 contract, per The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

While the full Atlanta Hawks schedule was released last week, we’ve highlighted the five games that Atlanta Hawks fans should mark on their calendars as the NBA season approaches its tip-off in mid-October.
