About Daniel Christian

About Daniel Christian:

Hello everybody. For starters, thanks for clicking on my page and more importantly, thanks for clicking on Soaring Down South to fulfill your Hawks addiction.

My name is Daniel Christian and I’m the Co-Editor/ Lead Blogger (along with David Menze) of SDS.

I spent the majority of my early childhood in Atlanta when I fell in love with basketball. I wasn’t enamored with the Hawks at the time– fascinated maybe, but not captivated– and how could I be? The Hawks were perennial losers and I was in elementary school front-running for McGrady’s Orlando teams or Iverson’s 76ers. I’d go to Hawks games, enjoy the atmosphere at Philips, come home and shoot hoops in my backyard pretending I was Jay Williams of the Bulls (before the motorcycle accident). Every now and again I’d be Jason Terry– my favorite Hawks player growing up, but usually I wasn’t. It wasn’t until my last few years living in Atlanta that I became a real Hawks fan. It happened though, and sure enough, I never looked back.

I now live in Washington DC and constantly bicker with Wizards fans, nothing more than light-hearted jabs. Still, as a Hawks fan, I’ve been through it all, through double the pain these Wiz fans are feeling now. I saw the 13-69 atrocity, I saw Marvin’s name go before CP3′s and Deron’s while I shook my head in disappointment. I watched Shelden Williams get drafted 5th overall, and for some reason I foolishly believed the Hawks would be better off taking Mike Conley over Al Horford. I remember in 2008 when this team had a bright future, but being the symbol of mediocrity in a league with so many terrible teams isn’t the worst fate. There’s still hope for this core, and even if there isn’t, I haven’t let go of it.

As my fandom grew, so did my opinions. I began writing them down. I started blogging and began writing for any place that would take my stuff. I wrote at Bleacher Report and eventually became the Atlanta Hawks Featured Columnist there. While doing that I briefly (for literally about one week) wrote for Atlanta Sports Then and Now. When I realized that neither of those websites was really what I was looking for, I started my own blog and began searching the web looking for a new Hawks home.

SDS naturally caught my eye and over time I was promoted to Co-Editor/ Lead Blogger. This is a respectable blog where my opinion will be valued and not clumped with hundreds of others, and I appreciate the opportunity that SDS provides.

My lifetime goal is to write about basketball for a living. I watch a healthy (probably unhealthy, actually) dose of both the NBA and college basketball and my dream is to be a major columnist for either one. It won’t be an easy road to get there, but it’s something I definitely plan on pursuing. Right now, though, my loyalties lie solely with SDS. And as a Hawks fan and writer, I really couldn’t ask for anything more.
