Game 2 Grades: Atlanta Hawks Fall Hard at Home Again
Atlanta Hawks Grades: The Bench
Dennis Schröder, B
13 Points| 6-11 FG | 0-0 FT | 3 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK |
He was a defensive liability but led the team offensively and during the third quarter tried to single-handedly spark something out of nothing. He got out of the habit of distributing to take the reins and it seemed to do alright as he was proficient with his shot selection.
Shelvin Mack, C
7 Points| 2-7 FG | 2-2 FT | 3 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK |
Shelvin got some action, albeit during the dregs of the second half. But while he was out there he managed the game well and didn’t commit a turnover. Looking to spark something, he attempted a lot of threes in his 13 minutes, only connecting on one.
Kent Bazemore, C+
7 Points| 3-4 FG | 1-2 FT | 2 REB | 0 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK |
Bazemore is notching a couple of games in a row of solid bench production, unfortunately they are going for not. The thing to take away from Kent is that undeniable swagger. He gave James a few shoulder bumps after hard plays. After the game, he publicly declared Atlanta is still the better team. Whatever works Baze, whatever works.
Mike Scott, C
6 Points| 3-6 FG | 0-0 FT | 7 REB | 1 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK |
After four straight games of exile, Scott emerged on the court again to try to mix up some sets. He definitely helped his case on the rebounding end but the Hawks were looking for more of that offensive playoff explosion that occurred last season. Time will tell if he played well enough to be given another chance.
Pero Antic, D
1 Points| 0-1 FG | 1-2 FT | 5 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK |
An all-around bad game for Pero though he didn’t harm matters more by attempting shots. He used his fouls quickly and look confused on offense at times, at one point he gave up a good three-point look to force a bad pass into the paint that was promptly stolen.
John Jenkins, N/A
0 Points| 0-0 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK |
Got into the game with five minutes left and the outcome long pre-determined so he just went through the motions. He got to say he notched some playing time in an Eastern Conference Finals game.
Mike Muscala, N/A
2 Points| 1-1 FG | 0-0 FT | 0 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK |
Same boat as Jenkins, subbed in during garbage time. He made one basket but nothing else of note to report. We’ll see if Bud dials his number again after the Game 2 experiment didn’t go as planned.
