October 27th Pistons @ Hawks

Opening night is always exciting, no matter the season. This season there comes with it an enthusiasm, but also some uncertainty. Who will start at small forward? How will the rotation shake out with so many new faces? Will Kyle Korver be completely recovered from TWO offseason surgeries? Is a regression coming? Will Lassie reach Uncle Joe in time to rescue Timmy from that well? These are all fair questions. The Hawks are coming off a 60 win season, and being Atlanta sports fans, there is a reason to wonder when the other shoe is going to fall. But, before all that existential dread fills the hearts of Hawks fans, they will relish the joyous occasion that is the return of Hawks basketball. There’s a greater than fifty percent chance that Stan Van Gundy will curse on live television, so there’s that.

October 29th Hawks @ Knicks

The opening game jitters are gone and it’s time to get down to business. In this case that also means a nationally televised game on TNT. The Knicks were the laughingstock of the league last season, but with the return of Carmelo Anthony, under the radar signings of Robin Lopez and Aaron Afflalo, and the drafting of potential star Kristaps Porzingis, the Knicks may be on the road back to relevance. Mike Budenholzer and his squad will attempt to remind them that that road is not so easily paved. This game also has Tim Hardaway Jr. revenge game potential. Get your popcorn ready.
