19 Game Winning Streak

After finishing the 2013-2014 at 38-44 the expectations for the Atlanta Hawks were not sky-high. Yes, they took the Indiana Pacers to seven games in their first round playoff series, but there is no way anyone could have predicted the insane turnaround in the next season.

By February 2nd it was clear that this team was for real. It’s hard not to trust a team after they reel off 19 wins in a row, a streak that included an undefeated month of January (17-0). During that period the Hawks improved their record from 21-8 to 40-8. Is that good? I think that’s good.

They also defeated a plethora of playoff teams during the winning streak. Including the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Milwaukee Bucks, the Portland Trail Blazers (twice), the Los Angeles Clippers, the Memphis Grizzlies, the Washington Wizards, the Boston Celtics, the Toronto Raptors, the Chicago Bulls, and the Brooklyn Nets.

A February 2nd loss to the New Orleans Pelicans finally ended the streak, but by that loss the basketball world had learned that the Hawks would be a force to be reckoned with for the rest of the season. Overall the team would win 33 of  35 games during that stretch.
