Al Horford had a fantastic second half last night, capped off by a massive dunk over Solomon Hill, as the Atlanta Hawks slid by the Indiana Pacers 102-96 last night. It was the team’s third straight victory to open the month of February.
You can watch the dunk below:
Horford followed that dunk with another one on the Hawks’ next possession, energizing the crowd and the bench, while giving Atlanta the lead. Horford scored 15 of his 21 points in the second half. His presence on the offensive end helped Atlanta offset the Pacers’ 21 second chance points.
Horford also led the team with seven rebounds, which isn’t saying much as four Pacers had at least seven rebounds in the game.
If Atlanta wants to build on their current three game win streak, the frontcourt needs to make sure they make a more consistent effort on the glass night in and night out. Giving up 19 offensive rebounds is not the mark of contending teams and will really hurt the team once we get into the playoffs.
Atlanta would love to see Horford, as well as his teammates, improve on their rebounding. The victory against Indiana should have come much easier. Second chance opportunities made the game much closer than it should have been. Had Indiana had a better scoring night as a team, the game would have been an embarrassment.
Horford’s dunks are amazing to watch and something fans come to arenas to see, but dunks alone do not win games. Either in internally or through a trade, Atlanta needs to find some one who is willing to get beat around for a board.
