Atlanta’s 5 Best Draft Fits At #21 Overall
2. DeAndre Bembry
DeAndre Bembry had a terrific season at Saint Joseph’s this year, averaging 17.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists. While he is not the shooter than the Hawks usually want in their wings, he has plenty of tools that could help fill in for a potentially departed, Kent Bazemore.
Bembry has a great ability to score inside the 3-point line. A great driver, Bembry can certainly attack the paint with force and is also capable of finding the open man if the defense comes crashing down. Bembry’s jump shot displays good form and is also capable of being developed. A strong defender, Bembry does well in attacking offensive players and creating turnovers. He also does something very well that the Hawks don’t; he is a great rebounder for his size. Rebounding from the wing is something that the Hawks have needed since DeMarre Carroll left for Toronto. Bembry is an aggressive player and explosive athlete on both sides of the ball, leading to a lot of big plays. Steals, dunks, great assists, you name it. DeAndre Bembry has made it happen. He also has the afro, what team doesn’t need an afro?
At only 6-5. and a half, Bembry is undersized for the small forward position and might be a little too slow to play the shooting guard. Also, he has limited range on his jump shot, as he shot only 27% from downtown this past year. But, the Hawks have done well in developing players’ jump shots and Bazemore thrived at the 3 standing at about the same height.
With Bazemore’s impending free agency, the Hawks could be looking for their next small forward find. Bembry has athletic upside as he currently stands and if the jumpshot can be polished, he has even more potential. That makes him a great. fit for the Hawks. Slighty undersized for the 3, explosive athlete, and a big-time playmaker? Sounds like the reigning NBA Finals MVP to me.
