The Taurean Prince Experience

Taurean Prince was selected by the Hawks with the No. 12 overall pick in this year’s draft as apart of the three-team deal that included sending point guard Jeff Teague to Indiana.

Prince has drawn comparisons to former Hawks wing, DeMarre Carroll in that both players succeed defensively and have the ability to be efficient three-point shooters. At 6’8″ 220 pounds, Prince will likely overwhelm much of the competition in summer league, but for fans, it will be assurance that he knows how to use that size to his advantage.

During his season at Baylor, Prince had to take on much more of the scoring responsibility than he is used to. Even though he did so successfully by averaging 16 points per game on 43.1 percent shooting, he will see his role change significantly on the Hawks to being more of a three-and-D type of player.

For summer league however, Prince will see plenty of shots come his way since he is the Hawks’ top pick. The thing to watch here is what type of shots he takes. Are they transition opportunities after playing solid defense? Can he utilize off-ball screens correctly to get open looks around the perimeter?

Those will be just a few things to watch with Prince throughout the three games.
