Atlanta Hawks: Things To Watch During Summer League
The Project In Process
Edy Tavares was one of the players who took advantage of his opportunity last summer league by landing a deal with the Hawks. His huge 7’3″ frame was something that is hard not to catch your eye, and the Hawks took a chance on him by signing him last season, but sending him down to play the majority of the 2015-16 in the D-League.
Tavares should dominate the Las Vegas Summer League defensively. With his massive size, it’ll be a prayer that any player is able to get a shot over him when attacking the basket.
The one part of Tavares’ game that is keeping him from getting onto the Hawks’ final roster is his offensive game. He hasn’t shown much versatility even with post moves on the block at that end of the floor and in today’s NBA, if you have a player who can’t score, it becomes a huge liability.
With that being said, Tavares did show some glimpses last season in his D-League tenure that he could eventually develop enough of an offensive game to force the Hawks to give him a legitimate chance.
There will be plenty of dunks coming from Tavares throughout the three games, but the real thing to watch is seeing whether he improved on his footwork during post moves or any sort of growth offensively other than just using his brute size.
