Atlanta Hawks Projected Starting Lineup For 2016-17
Dennis Schroder
The era of Dennis Schroder being the Hawks’ starting point guard is finally among us. Ever since early last season, there were rumblings that fans wanted head coach Mike Budenholzer to give the 22-year-old the keys to the offense, and even though Budenholzer was also a fan of Schroder’s, Teague was still producing.
After being swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the postseason for the second-straight season, a shake-up was mandatory, and there’s none more drastic than changing the point guard.
The fact that Budenholzer is a fan of Schroder’s is half the battle when evaluating the pros and cons of a change such as this. Although Schroder made some head-scratching turnovers late in games last season, he will be able to play without the pressure of Teague being subbed in after every mistake he makes.
Relieving a player of that pressure alone can do wonders for production. His averages of 11.0 points, 4.4 assists, and 2.6 rebounds per game will increase significantly as will his minutes from this year’s 20.3 per game.
