When the Hawks signed Joe Johnson in 2005 , they were in the process of a rebuilding stage and desperate to get back to the playoffs–somewhere they hadn’t been since the 1998-99 season.
Their six-year, $123.7 million deal with Johnson seemed like a monumental risk considering he wasn’t really known for being a franchise player. Johnson ended up making the Hawks look smart, though. He was a six-time NBA All-Star and earned All-NBA Third Team honors once during his seven seasons with the Hawks.
Johnson ranks second in franchise history with 908 3-point field goals, sixth with 2,653 assists and 10,606 points, seventh with an average of 5.2 assists per game, and ninth with 19,733 minutes played.
Johnson signed a one-year deal with the Utah Jazz this summer. Since playing for the Hawks, Johnson has also played for the Brooklyn Nets and Miami Heat.
