When the Hawks signed Dikembe Mutombo just a year off winning Defensive Player of the Year in 1995, it was like a breath of fresh air to the franchise.

Mutombo continued his defensive dominance as a Hawk, winning Defensive Player of the Year in 1996-97 and again in 1997-98.

To add to his accomplishments, Mutombo was four-time All-Star, an All-NBA Second Team selection (2001), a two-time All-NBA Third Team selection (1998, 2002), and a three-time All-NBA Defensive First Team.

Mutombo ranks second in NBA history with 3,289 blocked shots, seventh with an average of 2.8 blocks per game,19th with 12,359 rebounds, 35th with an average of 10.3 rebounds per game, 38th with 1,196 games, and 50th with 36,791 minutes played.

Mutombo was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2015.
