4. Jason Terry

1999 NBA Draft Round 1, Pick 10

Point Guard, 6’2″, 185 lbs, Arizona

Jason “The Jet” Terry was a phenom as a combo guard upon entering the league with the Hawks. He was named to the All Rookie Second team and has made the third most 3-point field goals in NBA history. I know that sounds absolutely unbelievable to you, but I assure you it’s correct. He currently trails only Reggie Miller and Ray Allen with 2,169 three pointers made. After signing with the Milwaukee Bucks this summer, he could actually climb further.

While he was with the Hawks, I didn’t ever recall him being an accurate outside bomber, but he did nail 648 three pointers from 1999-04 as a Hawk. During a period where the Hawks struggled to win a lot of games, Terry could have been labeled as the best player. For the 00- 01 season, he averaged 19.7 points per game and led the team in steals, assists and free throws made.

He would solidify his value just as much over the course of the 01- 02 season, averaging 19.3 points per game. He started 341 of 403 games for the Hawks playing 14,023 minutes and scored 6,534 points. He compiled 1320 rebounds, 2230 assists, 588 steals, 68 blocks and shot .42 percetn in Atlanta.

On August 4th, 2004 he was traded along with Alan Henderson to the Dallas Mavericks for Antoine Walker and Tony Delk. Terry may not have been viewed as a star or even an incredible player for the Hawks, but his stats tell a different story. Since he has become an NBA Champ (2011 Mavericks) and a sixth man of the year winner, it may have been in the best interest for Atlanta to hold on to him.
