85
Howard might be the hardest player to rate in the entire league. At times, he looks sheerly dominant, an unstoppable defensive force with an offensive game sturdy enough to keep a team afloat. But, at his lower points, Howard isn’t anything more than a moody rebounding machine with a detrimental offensive game.
For the Hawks to be successful next season, he will likley have to play more like the former. Last season, Howard was given a secondary offensive role to James Harden, who is the most talented black hole the league has to offer. That, paired with a lack of cohesion with the other star on the team, led to his lowest scoring season since his rookie season.
His 2K rating last year started at an elite 85 overall, but ended at a 83, which shows regression. While much of that can be blamed on the Rockets’ playstyle, Howard was injured for a number of games, and didn’t have the best season. Hassan Whiteside‘s rating this year is an 85, and he arguably outplayed Howard last season. If Howard regains the confidence and dominance he played with in Orlando, it is plausible his overall could jump anywhere from three to six points.
