Darren Collison

After DeMarcus Cousins was traded to the Pelicans, it was reported that Darren Collison is available via trade for draft picks or players on rookie contracts. A trade with the Kings is very possible, as it is clear that they are looking to rebuild, while the Hawks are attempting to stock up for the playoffs.

Many people know Collison for his clutch shooting, but he is much more than just that. He not only brings veteran leadership, but he is an extremely talented player that simply was never put in a position to gain the national recognition he deserves. He’s only 29, but with his IQ for the game, one would think he’s a lot older.

His shooting off of the dribble and his ability to facilitate makes him an instant game-changer for the Hawks. He has great efficiency and is really the Paul Millsap of point guards because of his consistency, and the fact that everyone knows exactly what to expect from him. Along with all of this, he is very smart with the ball. This is something Dennis Schroder can learn from him.

Having Collison as a sixth man instantly pushes the Hawks into the level of Eastern Conference contenders. The Hawks would look to move Mike Scott and/or Tiago Splitter to the Kings. However, looking at what the Kings seem to want. It is likely that either Delaney, Taurean Prince, or DeAndre’ Bembry, along with draft picks, would have to be sent to Sacramento. Here is the best example of a trade sending Collison to Atlanta:

Hawks trade: Tiago Splitter, Taurean Prince, 2017 1st round pick (lottery protected)

Kings Trade: Darren Collison, Anthony Tolliver.

Other options at the point guard position include Raymond Felton and Aaron Brooks.
