Marreese Speights

The bench has not received the boost they want out of the big men, and Mo Speights is undoubtedly the answer.

This season has proven that Speights is no joke. No one saw it coming, but he has established himself as one of the best shooting big men in the league. So far this year, he is shooting 45% from the field, 40% from behind the arc, and nearly 90% from the stripe.

Yes, you read that correctly, and yes, he is a PF/C. Mike Scott has had a horrible season and it is clear that he will not be a Hawk for much longer. Speights could be a huge upgrade over Scott. With his brilliant scoring ability, the second unit for the Hawks would have pressure taken off of them, especially Mike Muscala. Speaking of pressure, he and Paul Millsap have similar skill sets, so Millsap can play at his own pace. Getting Speights would be an absolute steal.

Like Collison, he is extremely consistent for a backup and can prove to be an X-factor as the Hawks make their playoff run. Also, with his shooting talents from three-point range AND from the free-throw line, he can be swapped out for Dwight Howard in late-game situations. He is the epitome of an efficient and effective role player. To go along with all of this, he has a lot of playoff experience with the Warriors, winning the championship with them in 2015.

Speights could instantly be a sixth man. He could potentially be pricey, as he is very valuable to the Clippers, who are looking to contend this season. I do think, however, that the Hawks can easily pull a deal off to get him:

Hawks trade: Malcolm Delaney, 2017 2nd round pick, 2020 2nd round pick

Clippers trade: Marreese Speights, Raymond Felton

Other options at the backup power forwrd include Jon Leuer, Brandan Wright, and Patrick Patterson.

Could the Hawks manage to snag either one of these fantastic second unit players, or dare I say both?
