Atlanta Hawks Headlines returns with discussion of Eurobasket 2017, the NBA Draft, and more.

It’s quiet around here these days. The excitement has worn off after the Hawks hired former Golden State Warriors executive Travis Schlenk to be their new general manager last week. Schlenk brings a history of success with him to Atlanta, as well as high praise from an NBA legend.

Schlenk is now tasked with deciding Atlanta’s direction in the 2017 NBA Draft. After that, he’ll have to make some tough free agency decisions. At the moment, that seems like a long way off. The Hawks have been finished with their season for nearly one month now, but the NBA Finals haven’t even started yet!

According to a report, Dennis Schroder will play for Germany at Eurobasket 2017. Schroder last played for his home country during the preliminary rounds of Eurobasket 2015. 2016-17 was Schroder’s first season as Atlanta’s starting point guard. He showed growth throughout the course of the season, but clearly needs to improve in some areas.

In his latest mock draft at SB Nation, Tom Ziller has the Hawks selecting Terrance Ferguson with the 19th overall pick. Ferguson was originally committed to Arizona, but instead played professionally in Australia last season.

At Peachtree Hoops, Brad Rowland references Ziller’s mock draft and analyzes Ferguson’s fit with the Hawks. Rowland notes that Ferguson offers some upside as a potential “3 and D” wing. Of course, there is some risk associated with picking Ferguson. If his jump-shot never develops, that significantly lowers his ceiling as a prospect.
