10th Overall Pick

The final draft of the 1990s may have been the most impactful for the Hawks from a long-term perspective.

With the 10th pick, the Hawks selected Arizona guard Jason Terry. In his senior season, Terry averaged nearly 22 points and 6 assists per game, en route to earning the Pac-12 Player of the Year award. In his rookie season, Terry averaged 8.1 points and 4.3 assists and started 27 games. He was named the starting point guard for the 2000-01 season and upped his scoring output to 19.7 points per game.

From 2001 to 2004, Terry averaged 18.3 points, 5.9 assists, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.5 steals for the Hawks. He shot nearly 43 percent from the field and nailed 37.4 of his three-point attempts.

He was dealt to the Dallas Mavericks after the 2004 season, in exchange for Antoine Walker. As a Maverick, Terry was named the 6th Man of the Year for the 2008-09 season, and won the 2011 NBA championship, averaging 20 points per game in the Finals. He still ranks highly in the Hawks’ record books. He is fourth all-time in three-pointers made, tenth all-time in assists, and eighth in steals for the Hawks, making him one of the greatest players in team history.
