Hawks’ 2017 Summer League Point Guards

The Hawks are currently set to bring three point guards to Las Vegas. Bryce Cotton and Josh Magette both played for the Hawks Summer League team last year, while Magette was offered a training camp invite at the conclusion of the tournament.

Cotton used the Summer League to obtain a short-lived contract with Turkish club Anadolu Efes. He went on to play in Australia’s National Basketball League (NBL) for the rest of the 2016-17 season. Cotton helped lead the Perth Wildcats to an NBL Championship, and was named Grand Final MVP. In Game 3, he dropped 45 points, on 12-17 shooting, in a  title-clinching win.

Josh Magette played his Summer League basketball with the Nets last season, averaging 2.2 points and 2.5 assists in only 13 minutes per game. Magette played in the D-League last season, averaging 15.8 points and league-best 9.4 assists per game. He was rewarded for his play with a 2017 D-League All-Star nod, and a two-year contract with the Atlanta Hawks.

The new addition to the Hawks’ Summer League point guard group is North Carolina’s Nate Britt. As a senior, he played 19 minutes per game, and averaged less than one turnover per game. As a sophomore, Britt had one of his more impressive seasons, averaging 5.5 points, 1.5 assists and 1.4 rebounds in just 15.3 minutes per game. He is unlikely to make the Hawks’ roster, but can use his SL play to obtain a deal overseas.
