Brussino, 24, grew up in Argentina and became a professional basketball player at the age of 19. Playing for a few Argentinian club teams, including Regatas Corrientes and Penarol, he showed constant improvement. He averaged close to 15 points per game in his final season of club basketball, shooting 40% from behind the arc.
He declared for the 2015 NBA Draft but did not get selected. After numerous workouts, the Dallas Mavericks liked what they saw in him and offered Brussino a partially guaranteed 3-year minimum contract at the beginning of the 2016-2017 NBA season.
While this looked to be the start of a hopefully successful NBA run, Brussino barely saw any playing time in his rookie year, appearing in 54 games, playing on average 9.6 minutes per game. On paper, it looks like he struggled to be efficient at the NBA level (37% from the field) but it is hard to develop and improve when given such scarce opportunities. He also spent a good portion of his first season in the D-League with the Texas Legends.
Brussino did show flashes of potential here and there. On March 15, he scored 11 points in 14 minutes, with 8 of his 11 coming in the fourth quarter.
He was waived by the Mavericks on July 20.
