Breaking down the Atlanta Hawks rotation for 2017-18 season
By Phil Veasley
Wings
SG Starter: Kent Bazemore
After losing his starting job to Tim Hardaway Jr. Kent Bazemore will look to have a bounce back year. Last year he spent most of the year trying to find his groove and living up to his contract. This led to him not “playing his game.” Coach Budenholzer will likely tell him to “just be him” this year. It should pay off with better scoring on better shooting percentages.
Projected Line: 15.0 PPG 3.6 RPG 2.7 APG 31 MPG
SF Starter: Taurean Prince
After a great end to his rookie campaign, Tauren Prince will build off of that. His scoring should take an increase to nearly 10 PPG while enhancing his sometimes poor decision making. He looks to be a lock for the starting Small Forward spot for the Atlanta Hawks.
Projected Line: 9.2 PPG 2.2 RPG 1.9 APG 25 MPG
Wing Backup: Marco Belinelli
Marco Belinelli had a decent year in Charlotte. The Atlanta Hawks however will likely trend toward giving the youth more playing time. However, Belinelli will still be one of the first players off the bench chipping in much needed three point shooting.
Projected Line: 7.7 PPG 1.6 RPG 1.3 APG 22 MPG
Wing Backup: DeAndre’ Bembry
Coming off an impressive Summer League showing, DeAndre Bembry will finally break the rotation this season. While the numbers will be fairly pedestrian, his defense and overall Basketball IQ will be noticeable every time he steps foot on the court.
Projected Line: 6.9 PPG 3.1 RPG 2.2 APG 20 MPG
Wing Reserve: Tyler Dorsey
We won’t see much of Tyler Dorsey in Atlanta this year. He will mainly be stationed in Erie on our new G-League affiliate. When in Atlanta, expect him to be limited to the inactive list.
Wing Reserve: Nicolas Brussino
30/30 club member.
