Dewayne Dedmon: Free agent built for Atlanta’s success
In the NBA every franchise needs to figure out what there next step to greatness is going to be. Some franchises use different tactics to build their team.
Whether it is getting the next superstar in the draft, or using all the salary cap they have to get a player who has a name for themselves in the league.
Some teams need to figure out a different approach to the offseason. They start looking at who will better fit them for the present, or they build toward the future.
After achieving the number one seed in the Eastern Conference going 60-22 in the 2014-2015 season, the Atlanta Hawks have struggled to get back to that standard of greatness.
The Atlanta Hawks have been tried using both the draft, and free-agency to keep their team as a force in the league.
In the 2017 offseason, the Atlanta Hawks were able to pick up a good role-player in Dewayne Dedmon.
Dewayne Dedmon was undrafted coming into the NBA. Later in the 2013 he was signed by the Golden State Warriors.
In his four seasons in the league Dedmon has played for: The Golden Sate Warriors, Philadelphia 76ers, Orlando Magic, San Antonio Spurs, and now the Atlanta Hawks.
Dedmon, coming from San Antonio signed a $6 Million dollar contract with the Atlanta Hawks. Coming from San Antonio Dedmon brings a resume of winning.
Dedmon gives the Hawks the big man they most desperately needed. In the 2016-2017 Season, Dedmon averaged 5.1 pointer per game, 6.5 rebounds per game, and ha a sixty two percent field goal percentage.
Playing behind Pau Gasol in San Antionio, Dedmon’s minutes were limited to only 17 minutes per game. Now playing in Atlanta, Dedmon will have bigger opportunities to prove himself as a strong big man in the league.
Starting at the Center position for the Hawks, Dedmon will play a bigger role than he has in his career. This will help him in many ways.
Dedmon’s physical stature makes him a great rim protector, and rebounder. This gives Atlanta a presence down low that they haven’t had since Al Horford.
Playing next to Hawks Point Guard, Dennis Schroder will benefit both Dedmon and Schroder. Dedmon’s ability to catch lobs, and be the roll man on the pick and roll will set up a great duo for the Hawks.
Dedmon’s ability to stretch the floor with his mid-range shot, sets him up perfectly next to Hawks Power Forward, Ersan Ilyasova. The ability of the big man duo to both shoot and play inside, breaks up almost any defense.
The Hawks pick up of Dewayne Dedmon, really helps a struggling team have a little bit of hope for the upcoming season.
