We all knew the Atlanta Hawks would struggle this season, and so far, they are fulfilling expectations, both good and bad.
Now sitting at 1-8, the Hawks are scraping the bottom of the Eastern Conference, but it’s no surprise for everyone around the league. Parting ways with Dwight Howard and Paul Millsap have set the Hawks on the rebuilding path, and so far, it’s… working?
They may not be winning games, but the Hawks are certainly winning. Let us explain what we mean.

This franchise needs a jumpstart after a decade of consistency, but with little potential to actually challenge for the NBA title. With that comes finding the best young talent early in the draft. Therefore, it’s necessary to take a step back and look at the big picture before moving forward again.
Next, Dennis Schroder is fulfilling all expectation by taking on his expanded role and putting up significant numbers night in and night out. He is this team’s leader on the offensive end and he will only continue to grow throughout the season. He still needs to be more efficient with his shots, but signs are that he is taking to this new situation rather well.
Taurean Prince has also impressed in his sophomore campaign. Coach Bud put his trust in Prince in the back half of last season and now Prince is making the most of the opportunity. Yes, some games he has been spotty, but other times he shows dominance on both ends and flashes sparks of potential we all know he has.
Rookie big man John Collins has given the fans hope and delivered exciting dunk after exciting dunk as he continues his assault on all of the association’s rims. And it’s not just been Collins giving fans something to cheer about.
The Hawks have not been pushovers by any means this season. They suffered several close losses and they consistently show a desire to fight and put on a show for Hawk fans everywhere.
And that’s what we all thought would happen. Wins are going to be hard to come by, but excitement surely will not. So, the Hawks have been predictable… but in a good way.
