1993: ‘Nique Shines as Atlanta Dances with Wolves (The Omni)

I know, Dances with Wolves starring Kevin Costner came out in 1990, but it was still being rented at your local Blockbuster or Movie Gallery (you kids will never understand the struggles we faced in the early 90s).

The Minnesota Timberwolves could not contain Dominique Wilkins as he torched them for 45 points in front of a home crowd at the Omni in a 121-103 win.

Kevin Willis dominated the glass for Atlanta with 14 rebounds along with 16 points.

Second-year starter Stacey Augmon also added 14 points with 3 assists, 2 steals and 1 block,

Wolves rookie Christian Laettner scored a double-double for Minnesota with 23 points and 12 rebounds, fresh off a stellar career at Duke and a Gold Medal in the ’92 Olympics in Barcelona with the immortal Dream Team .

Minnesota would finish the season at 19-63, while the Hawks would make the playoffs only to be swept by Michael Jordan and the 3-peating World Champion Chicago Bulls.
