Hawks Sign Jeremy Evans to 10-Day Contract

ATLANTA, GA - SEPTEMBER 25: Jeremy Evans

The Atlanta Hawks have announced the signing of Jeremy Evans to a 10-Day Contract with the team. Evans has been playing with Atlanta’s G-League affiliate, the Erie BayHawks, during this season.

The BayHawks are currently in the throes of the G-League’s single-elimination playoffs and face off against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants on Tuesday April 3 at 7 p.m. EST.

Evans has been a reliable contributor for Erie this season, averaging solid all-around numbers of 15.3 points, 9.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.3 blocks and 0.9 steals in 30.7 minutes per game. He has been a double-double machine for the BayHawks, and his effort and solid rebounding would help Atlanta immediately in area where they are sorely lacking.

The 30-year-old Evans actually played in the NBA from 2010 to 2016 with the Jazz for 5 seasons and the Mavericks in his last season. Evans showed some flashes, even winning the slam dunk contest while with the Jazz in 2012.

Despite that national spotlight, Evans couldn’t find consistency and fell out of favor in Utah, finally dropping out of the league after the 2015-16 season.

With the Hawks currently in complete rebuild mode, Evans could provide a scrappy, veteran presence for this young Hawks team as they come into the home stretch of the season.

If Evans can capture just a bit of the spirit of this play this season, then Atlanta will be well-served by this signing:

The Hawks were able to sign Evans due to being granted an injury exception by the NBA due to the loss of Kent Bazemore and Dennis Schröder in recent weeks to various lingering ailments and injuries. Evans will wear No. 6.

Atlanta continues to make great use of its G-League system, as having a stable of “homegrown” talent working in the “minor leagues” under the shadow of the big club seems to be a great plan for most NBA teams going forward.
