Atlanta Hawks Best Lineups of the 2017-18 Season
By Dallin Duffy
5. Marco Belinelli, Tyler Cavanaugh, John Collins, Malcolm Delaney, Isaiah Taylor
This ranking was propelled by this lineup’s ability to grab offensive rebounds. Although technically considered a “small ball” lineup with John Collins playing the five, he showed in this lineup– as he did all year— that he can hold his own while rebounding against the league’s centers. This lineup logged an offensive rebound rate of 26.5 percent (best among all qualified lineups) and a respectable defensive rebound rate of 76.1 percent.
The second-chance opportunities provided more shot attempts, and they averaged 4 more field goal attempts than their opponent per 100 possessions.
Another factor in creating these scoring opportunities was how they took care of the ball. They posted a 1.87 assist-to-turnover ratio, which was above the season average for the team (1.525).
Because of the rebounding and safe playmaking, these five together were able to be successful. Due to the Marco Belinelli buyout in February however, they weren’t able to play together for too many minutes.
