Other Options

Anfernee Simons: Making headlines as the first player since 2005 to join the NBA straight out of high school, Simons has a wide range in mock drafts. Some have him as high as the late teens and some have him midway through the second round. He’s an intriguing prospect that will probably take a few years in the league until he blossoms. Could be a nice draft-and-stash in the G-League pickup.

Grayson Allen: It’s strange that a player likely headed to the second round (where the Hawks could take him at 34) is practically a household name by now. That’s what playing for Duke and having a less-than-stellar reputation will do for you I guess. A rare three-year starter under Coach K has a nice stroke from deep and has high basketball IQ. Allen probably has a much lower ceiling than most others here, but his floor is also higher.

Landry Shamet: Looking at Shamet’s stats from last season one major thing sticks out: 44% shooting from 3-point land on nearly 6 attempts per game. If he can get even close to that in the NBA, he’ll instantly be a threat for every team. Injury concerns and often lackadaisical defense will likely keep his name off the board until the second round, but the Hawks could take a chance on the 21 year old in the second round.

Elie Okobo: A French prospect that has been turning heads during his three year run in the France professional basketball league (LNB Pro A). Okobo is a true combo guard, able to run the offense as well as he is able to play off the ball. He’s a tad more raw than others going around him, but he’d be an ideal candidate if the Hawks are looking for someone to develop over time rather than someone who can make an immediate impact.
