Alkins tested his market in the draft last year, but ultimately decided to return for his sophomore season at Arizona. In his second season for the Wildcats Alkins scored 13.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game.

The 6’5” shooting guard could help bolster the Hawks bench this season and has plenty of room for improvement. Depending on how the first three picks in the draft go for the Hawks, we could see a guard rotation with plenty of minutes to go around for young guys who are trying to prove their worth — like Alkins.

With the depth of this draft, some guys who would’ve been first round picks in years prior will slip into the second round.

Luckily, the Hawks have early picks in both rounds of the draft and can probably steal some first round talent with the 34th pick in this year’s draft.

I personally would not mind to see a ton of fresh blood on the Hawks roster. With a young, high-flying, hardworking core in John Collins (a recent Second Team All-Rookie member) and Taurean Prince already in place, it’d be great to see some young guys go out and battle for a spot on an up-and-coming team.
