After being drafted 5th overall by the Hawks during the NBA Draft on June 21, Trae Young out of Oklahoma wasted no time in making himself at home.

He was also welcomed by his ATL (or is that TraeTL?) compatriot, Quavo of Migos, after Quavo prophesied that Ice Trae was on his way to ATL in the draft.
Young also wasted no time in attempted to bring an important piece to Atlanta in free agency. That’s right, Trae came out right and told The King, Lebron James, that he should come to Atlanta and play with the Hawks.
First off, is that tampering? Probably. Does it matter? Heavens no.
Secondly, there is absolutely no way James will even consider the Hawks in free agency, even though he would be welcomed like a conquering King to a franchise that has lacked star power since Dominique Wilkins left (or at least since Dikembe Mutombo roamed the paint with index finger extended).
LeBron did indeed express interest in Young when he was taking the college basketball world by storm with his insanely deep treys and tremendous passing acumen. As such, Young was linked to the Cavs with the 8th overall pick, before it was clear that the Magic would not let him slip past #6 overall.
In the end, this is all good fun from Trae, who has brought a little sunshine to the Hawks youth movement with his genuinely lovable personality and -ahem- singular style.
Soon, sooner than you think, this newest iteration of the Atlanta Hawks will be playing their first game in Utah’s Summer League with a roster that include Young as well as fellow rookie Omari Spellman, sophomores John Collins, Tyler Dorsey, Jaylen Morris, Antonius Cleveland and overseas option Alpha Kaba.
Who knows, if Young sets Summer League nets aflame with incredible feats of shooting prowess, maybe King James will take notice and help rescue a downtrodden Hawks franchise when it looks like things are about to start looking up?

(Disclaimer: Again, LeBron James will not be playing in Atlanta next season, but still, it’s fun to think about, right?)
