Atlanta Hawks first-year head coach, Lloyd Pierce, has some interesting decisions to make before the season opener October 17th. By now, Pierce probably has a solid idea on his potential starting lineup.

October 17th, the Atlanta Hawks will go on the road to face the New York Knicks. Over the summer the Hawks drafted Trae Young, Kevin Huerter and  Omari Spellman. During free agency, Atlanta acquired Jeremy Lin via trade.

Later on, in the summer, the Atlanta Hawks managed to trade Dennis Schröder and sign Vince Carter to a one-year deal (both deals were massive successes). Nonetheless, Atlanta’s roster has changed and there are still quite a few questions that fans, analyst and critics ultimately have.

Atlanta Hawks Sixth Man Possibilities

One major role that is up for grabs in the 2018-19 season is the role of the sixth man. In order to win an NBA championship teams have to have a solid bench and an efficient sixth man.

Last season, Lou Williams took home the Sixth Man of The Year Award with a tremendous season off the bench for the Los Angeles Clippers. Hawks fans may be familiar with Sweet Lou, who played in Atlanta from 2012-2014.

Unfortunately, Williams tore his ACL in his first season with the team and had a solid 2013-14 season. As the sixth man, it’s important to be able to motivate the second unit, score and make plays for the team in late-game situations.

Some notable players around the league in the sixth man role include Williams, Will Barton, Fred VanVleet, Eric Gordon and Shaun Livingston. Right now, Pierce probably has four players on his roster who could excel as the team’s sixth man.
