3. DeAndre’ Bembry

DeAndre Bembry may come as a surprise when you look at the sixth man slot for the Hawks. Bembry was drafted by Atlanta in 2016 in the late first round. The 6-foot-6 guard/forward provides the Hawks with some backcourt depth.

Bembry finished his rookie season averaging 2.7 points and 1.6 rebounds while shooting 48 percent from the field. Last season the 24-year-old increased his scoring by 2.5 points, which isn’t a lot, but it’s a start.

Holding on to the 21st pick of the 2016 draft was a marginal victory for Atlanta considering the rebuild and need for depth. Evidently, the guard/forward has a lot of work to do in order to improve. Also, providing the young wing with a clearer role may entice the two-year veteran to step up.

Atlanta also has the ability to place Bembry with their G-League team in the Erie BayHawks. Bembry has the potential and ability to become a jack-of-all-trades type of player. At the end of the 2017-18 season, the Saint Joseph’s product averaged 5.2 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists — a clear improvement from his rookie year.

One stat that may excite Hawks fans is that he shot 36.7 percent from three last season. Considering his increase in minutes per game, that’s solid development. Again, Bembry may not get the honors of sixth man but anything could happen and it is only his third year in the league.
