3. Remain HealthyLast season Lin touched the floor in only one game for the entire 2017-18 season. In his only game last season he logged 18 points, 4 assists and shot 100 percent from the free throw line.

The Harvard product finished the 2016-17 season averaging 14.5 points, 5.1 assists and 1.2 steals per game. However, he would only play 36 games during the 2016-17 campaign. Throughout Lin’s NBA journey he has only played all 82 games once while playing with the Houston Rockets.

Outside of the 2012-13 season, the 6-foot-3 guard has played seventy or more games three times throughout his career.

In order for the Hawks rebuild process to progress, Lin has got to remain healthy in order to guide Young. It’s one thing to coach or mentor from the sideline but actually being able to play together will help Young drastically.

When healthy, Lin can be a solid starting guard who can help contribute in multiple ways. During the 2012-13 season, the former Rocket played his best “all-around” basketball statistically.

Year one with Houston Lin averaged 13.4 points, 6.1 assists, and 3 rebounds per game while shooting 44.1 percent from the floor. Currently, the Californa native is only 30 years old but he is instrumental in the Hawks rebuild and immediate future plans.

Of course, the former Net isn’t in the long-term plans of the team. But general manager Travis Schlenk could decide to trade the eight-year veteran if he acquires value. Another option could be to or re-sign Lin to another short-term deal depending on his play.
