Atlanta Hawks: 4 Bold Predictions for Omari Spellman in 2018-19
By Chris Guest
Omari Spellman Will Make 2nd Team All-Rookie
While the Hawks have plenty of hotshot rookies that will be in the national spotlight, it seems a tad overzealous to peg Spellman as a possible First Team selection, especially considering how we felt about him coming out of the draft.
Still though, it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that all three of the Atlanta Hawks first round selections will play a ton of minutes in their first season in the league – providing them the opportunity to live up to (or even exceed) expectations.
Spellman certainly fits into that category, and this prediction illustrates that belief.
John Collins certainly played better than his #19 overall selection would indicate, and he is already one of the most important and best players on the Atlanta Hawks roster.
While Spellman is surprisingly already older than John Collins – despite being one year behind in terms of NBA experience – he could have a similar impact on the Hawks if he exerts the same kind of effort and energy that he did during Summer League.
Spellman was one of the shining lights for the Hawks in Las Vegas and Utah, and he provided multiple flashes of skills that he can hone to a razor’s edge if given the opportunity during the 2018-19 season. While Kevin Huerter and, even more so, Trae Young will be under the microscope much of the season, Omari Spellman has a chance to impress in a fairly stacked rookie class.
