The Atlanta Hawks now have a bona fide NBA legend on the team in Vince Carter, so let’s look back at one of his finest career achievements.

Now that the Atlanta Hawks have a legitimate NBA legend among its players in Vince Carter, we have the opportunity to look back at some of his incredible achievements over the years.

As a clear-cut first-ballot Hall of Famer, Carter has had his fair share of highlights over the years (and we hope he makes more with the Hawks). As one of the most dynamic dunkers of all time, many of his exploits are related to his insane vertical leap and ferocious posterization possibilities.

In one magical moment, both of those calling cards were put on display exactly 18 years ago – when Carter did this in the 2000 Olympics:

That’s right, it’s the anniversary of Carter hurdling over the head of 7-foot-2 French center Frédéric Weis. Let’s get another look at it:

As you can see, Vinsanity didn’t just dunk on Weis, he actually dunked over him, using his legendary leaping ability to sky above the head of the ground-bound center.

Immediately, VC knew he had created an iconic highlight that would stand the test of time and responded fittingly by letting out a roar and punching the air in ecstasy.

Carter’s Team USA teammate Kevin Garnett, for his part, was right there with him, ready to celebrate one of the finest dunking achievements in basketball history.

For his part, Weis has been a spectacular sport about being on the receiving end of one of the most harrowing dunks in basketball history, as he even let a player re-create the dunk (with a Carter jersey on of course) at a charity event last year:

Now that Vince Carter is a member of the Atlanta Hawks for what might possible be his last season, expect a lot of retrospective pieces like this one celebrating the career of one of the best players of all time.
