Atlanta Hawks Ranked 28th in Entertainment Value by Sports Illustrated
By Chris Guest
Sports Illustrated recently released its ranking of NBA teams based on how entertaining they will be in 2018-19, and the Atlanta Hawks ranked quite low.
The Atlanta Hawks are not expected to make much noise in the 2018-19 regular season, with good reason. The team is extremely young and inexperienced and the veterans the team does have will likely not be able to impact the team in a huge way – enough to sway their extremely low over/unders.
One thing the Hawks will be next year is a vast improvement in terms of quality over the 2017-18 rendition.
Last year’s Atlanta Hawks were almost unwatchable at times, though, of course that didn’t stop our masochistic tendencies from taking over and watching every game last year. You’re welcome.
This year’s team, by comparison, should be a joy to watch as they grow and learn on the fly and the team’s older young players like Taurean Prince and DeAndre’ Bembry grow into leadership roles on the court.
Despite that, Sports Illustrated’s Ben Golliver recently released his rankings of the most entertaining teams in the NBA, and the Atlanta Hawks were all the way down at 28th out of 30 teams.
While it’s certainly understandable that some of the bigger-market teams like the Lakers, Celtics, and Sixers will make for can’t-miss viewing and smaller-market teams like the Raptors and Bucks made major changes in the offseason, placing the Hawks ahead of only the Bulls and the Magic seems like an oversight.
The Atlanta Hawks will be super fun to watch next year, if only to see Trae Young hoist up a stone-cold classic game-winning 30-footer like this one against the Spurs in preseason:
Beyond that, the team has NBA legend and first-ballot Hall of Famer Vince Carter among its ranks, who can still 360 dunk better than anyone ever:
Will they be good? Oh heavens no. Will they be entertaining? Almost unquestionably yes.
