Hawks at Suns, Saturday Feb. 2, 9:00 p.m. EST

Speaking of highly touted rookies, DeAndre Ayton was an easy choice for the Phoenix Suns at #1 overall. This will be the first time that Atlanta Hawks fans get a chance to see Ayton up close, and they will certainly be impressed with his physique and almost perfect body for the NBA.

He certainly looks the part out there, and to this writer’s eyes, he or our own Trae Young will have a better chance at the rookie of the year award than, say, Doncic (but that’s another story for another time).

The Suns, on paper, are drastically improved from last year’s dumpster fire of a team, and this February game has all the makings of a matchup that the Hawks will let slip away.

As long as they don’t make it a Bill Murray-esque Groundhog Day scenario, they should be fine.

Hawks vs. Spurs, Wednesday Mar. 6, 7:30 p.m. EST

Our last best game of the season occurs in early March and is a rematch of what was an instant classic in the preseason, which saw Taurean Prince score 25 points on sterling efficiency, but was highlighted by this 30-foot Trae Young game-winner:

That honestly never gets old.

The Spurs look as if they’re in bad shape to start the season, with the team’s young guard rotation of Dejounte Murray, Derrick White and Lonnie Walker all out for considerable periods of time (Murray sadly for the whole year).

However, Hawks fans must feel like Trae Young has the Spurs’ number after that superstar move against San Antonio, so perhaps a late-season showcase for Young will further cement his hopefully rookie of the year campaign in March.

A fan can dream, right?
