A look ahead to what the future might bring for the Atlanta Hawks and especially the team’s rookies.
The Atlanta Hawks secured their first victory of this young season on Sunday evening with a dominant performance against the defending Eastern Conference champion Cleveland Cavaliers. While a lot has changed for the Cavs since they ousted the Celtics last season, the Hawks have seen a lot of roster upheaval this offseason too.
Notably, the team had 4 draft picks, which was parsed down to the 3 due to a trade in the 2018 NBA Draft, which were used to draft Trae Young, Kevin Huerter and Omari Spellman.
Each player brought their own positives and negatives to the table, but in that tilt against the Cavaliers, Hawks fans were able to foresee a future in which each rookie plays an integral in the outcome of the Hawks winning a basketball game.
Young, Huerter and Spellman each played more than 23 minutes, with Trae playing a total of 37. The trio combined for 61 points, 16 assists and 13 rebounds and were a combined 13 of 24 from three-point range (54 percent).
While each player looked good, let’s outline the specific work from each player in more detail.
