Atlanta Hawks: DeAndre’ Bembry’s Bounce-back Season Off to Good Start
By Chris Guest
So far, DeAndre’ Bembry is on pace to shatter some of his meager career-highs from previous seasons – most of which due to the fact that he is playing a lot more minutes than he ever has. And with good reason, as Bembry has proven himself as one of the team’s most consistent defenders (on a Hawks team that has one of the worst defenses in the NBA).
In the 2018-19 season, Bembry has already notched a career-high in total rebounds (78) and three-point attempts (39).
On a per-game basis, the volume of his production is way up from previous years. All of the following numbers would be career-highs for Bembry if the season ended today: 2.8 field goals made and 7.4 attempted per game, 0.8 three-pointers made and 2.3 attempted per game, 1.4 free throws made and 2.3 attempted per game, 4.6 rebounds per game, 2.2 assists per game, 1.2 steals per game and 7.7 points per game.
Bembry has gotten a lot of play as one of the team’s best wing defenders, as 73 percent of his minutes have come at the small forward spot and 21 percent at the two.
