Second Quarter Reaction

In the second quarter, the Warriors continued to space the floor and move the ball around. Klay Thompson got off to a slow start but his teammates continued to run pick and rolls and find him off canny cuts.

Despite a double-digit deficit the Hawks continued to battle back in the second quarter and went on an impressive 12-4 run. Young, John Collins and Kevin Huerter continued to fight against the two-time champions. Unfortunately, the Hawks struggled to convert from three as they only hit one three-pointer in the first half off 1 of 12 shooting.

As the season goes on, the Atlanta Hawks have to get better as a team at taking care of the basketball and taking better shots. At the end of the first half, the Hawks turned the ball over 14 times. It’s hard to win in the NBA when you turn the ball over constantly — especially against a high-powered, dynastic team like the Warriors.

Towards the end of the second quarter, Curry picked up his third foul with around 2:30 left in the quarter. Young and Lin did a good job of taking advantage of the Warriors back up guard in Quin Cook.

Atlanta would go into halftime trailing Golden State 47-61. During a halftime interview, Hawks assistant coach Matthew Hill stated that the Hawks need to work on making the easy play and not always opting for the home run.
