Wednesday night, the Atlanta Hawks fell to the Brooklyn Nets 100-116, causing them to fall to 12-29 on the season.

In the first quarter, the Atlanta Hawks dominated the boards on both sides of the ball. Brooklyn did not have an answer for John Collins. For a majority of the game, the Nets either put Jared Dudley or Jarrett Allen on Collins.

Nonetheless, neither Dudley or Allen could handle Collins on the block due to his strength and quick first step. The Atlanta Hawks would close out the first quarter with a 38-23 lead.

Atlanta led the Nets by as many as 19 points, but turnovers would come back to haunt the young team. Granted, tonight’s game could have gone either way but the Hawks beat themselves in the third quarter.

Tonight’s loss extended Atlanta’s losing streak to two games. Although the Hawks lost tonight’s game there are still some positive takeaways. Kevin Huerter found himself in the starting lineup again which has helped relieve pressure off of Trae Young.

Another positive is the continued dominance of Collins and the resurgence of Lin. However, this young team struggles with shot selection, turnovers and pace.

Fortunately, the season is still young and the Hawks will only get better. Here are some takeaways from Atlanta’s loss in Brooklyn.
