Atlanta Hawks: 3 Takeaways From Lopsided Loss In Brooklyn
Kevin Huerter Needs to be More Aggressive
Huerter continues to impress as the season goes on. He has found himself in the starting lineup the last few games due to his play and Kent Bazemore’s ankle injury.
Obviously, Atlanta Hawks’ head coach Lloyd Pierce has to be excited to see his future backcourt both in the starting lineup. This backcourt will be a beautiful thing to watch down the line as Huerter and Young continue to grow.
Both Huerter and Young were drafted due to their style of play and similarities to the splash brothers (Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson).
The Maryland product finished tonight’s game with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists. Clearly, if you are a Hawks fan you are happy with his performance. However, there are times where he lacks aggression and defers.
With Bazemore and Taurean Prince out of the lineup, Huerter has the green light to shoot (not the Curry green light). During tonight’s loss, Huerter did an excellent job of rising to the occasion when the Nets started to come back.
The 6-foot-7 guard scored most of his points tonight in the post or from mid-range. Red Pepper can separate himself from being labeled as a role player by being more aggressive on offense. When he attacks the rim, runs the fast break and moves without the basketball this team becomes multi-dimensional.
