Tonight, the Atlanta Hawks defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 123-121 on the road in a down to the wire game.

In the Atlanta Hawks win tonight, John Collins hit the game-winning shot with 9.5 seconds left with the game tied (121-121). After Collins shot the Sixers put their trust in Jimmy Butler, who drove to the lane and drew a foul.

Surprisingly, Butler missed both free throws and the 76ers were not able to get the rebound in order to score.

The Atlanta Hawks had five players in double figures and dominated on the boards. Atlanta took advantage in the paint thanks to Joel Embiid sitting out this game due to an ankle injury.

In tonight’s game, the Hawks had to face a stiff Philadelphia defense that causes frustration for most teams. Atlanta helped their head coach Lloyd Pierce capture his first win against his former team.

Throughout tonight’s matchup, Pierce made some interesting substitutions. At the 6:25 mark, Pierce substituted Young for Jeremy Lin. Despite contributing 18 points, Young turned the ball over four times and struggled to get a consistent rhythm.

Needless to say, the surprising element of this game was none other than Kevin Huerter who scored 29 points while shooting 62.5 percent from three. Huerter (29), Collins (25), DeAndre’ Bembry (14), Dewayne Dedmon (19), Young (18) all scored double digits in tonight’s win.

Despite playing a solid 76ers defense the young Hawks found a way to pull out a victory. Here are some takeaways from tonight’s game.
