Atlanta Hawks: 3 Takeaways from Hawks Comeback Win in Phoenix
Trae Young is the truth
If anyone starts an argument with you about Trae Young’s potential with “but he sucks” or “he shoots poorly”, you can probably just respectfully exit the conversation. Young won Rookie of the Month in January, and looks like he could be in line for back-to-back Rookie of the Month honors. He racked up a decent chunk of his points when the Hawks needed it most, and he is truly learning how to balance his scoring duties with his passing duties.
In the fourth quarter Young shot 60 percent, including 5/10 from the 3-point line. He controlled the tempo and also had 2 assists with no turnovers in that near perfect fourth quarter. It was the type of performance that reminded people that instead of constantly comparing Young to Luka Doncic because of the now infamous 2018 NBA Draft day trade, maybe we would all be a lot happier if we just appreciated that both are awesome players in their own way.
Young was see to his idols in the building, so it is fitting he had such a big performance.
The fact that Young was cooking heading into the fourth put enough fear in the defense to open up the floor for his teammates. In that same fourth quarter where Young was on fire, Collins went 4/4 from the field and 4/6 from the FT line for 13 points.
With the NBA game already slowing down immensely for Young the sky is the limit. Lloyd Pierce has this squad playing hard, and they are building lots of momentum heading into the All-Star break.
The Atlanta Hawks are now an impressive 3-3 on this road trip, and have a chance to finish off the road trip with a winning record if they knock off their rival Washington Wizards on Monday, February 4 at 7 p.m. EST.
