Trae Young

First up, not unexpectedly, is the NBA’s best rookie over the past 2 months, Trae Young.

Ice Trae followed up a spectacular night against the Rockets with yet another sterling game. Against the Wolves, Trae logged a new career-high of 43 minutes while pouring on 36 points (again) with 10 assists, 8 rebounds and a +21 in on/off rating.

Overtime games used to be the bane of this particular writer’s Atlanta Hawks fandom. I never trusted this team to get the job done in overtime, as the stakes were higher – something that past Hawks teams would wither against.

This team, led by Trae Young and the next player on our list, seems unfazed by the pressure cooker of an overtime game. Let’s hope it stays that way going into the future, but the early returns are definitely promising.

John Collins

John Collins had a spectacular game that was littered with highlights that would’ve been snubbed by dunk contest voters.

Perhaps his best highlight was an insane reverse alley-oop that he threw down by letting his head graze the rim:

In the end, John was dominant down the stretch of this game and garnered one point shy of his career-best at 34 points. He added 8 boards and was +9 in 33 minutes.
