Takeaways from an ugly Atlanta Hawks loss to the San Antonio Spurs.

The Atlanta Hawks were looking to play a bit of spoiler ball Wednesday night, as they took on the current 8th seed in the West, the ever-relevant San Antonio Spurs.

It was one of the ugliest games on the year for either team, with both struggling with turnovers, poor shooting and fouls.

The Spurs rallied out to a hot start, up double digits by the end of the first quarter, but a good second period kept Atlanta in it, and it was close throughout the rest of the night.

Despite Taurean Prince, who was having a great night defensively, getting ejected on some pretty cheap techs, the young Hawks were able to stay chippy on that end of the floor.

Trae Young had a very rough first half, but came alive when Atlanta needed him most, doing most of his damage in the lane. He finished with 22 despite burying just 1 three ball.

Lamarcus Aldridge was easily the best player on the floor tonight, and he iced the game with good D and his patented scintillating mid-ranger jumpers. He ate up the Hawks’ defense that definitely missed Prince and Dewayne Dedmon down the stretch.

The Spurs scored over 30 points in just one quarter tonight, and it just happened to be the final. As has happened several times this season, Atlanta didn’t have enough gas to hold onto a lead against a tough opponent.

As the Hawks prepare for their next game against Brooklyn, we’ll give you some takeaways from tonight’s losing effort.
