Trae Triple-Double

With every dark cloud comes a silver lining, and in this game, the silver lining was a truly impressive outing from Trae Young, who has already cemented his status as the best rookie in franchise history. Trae’s final stat line means that he’s the only rookie not named Luka Doncic to produce a triple-double this season with 23 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds.

Here’s the thing: Trae did not have a very good game in this one. His shot was not falling, and his floaters were just not going in during this game. However, he was forcing the issue around the basket and got the line an excellent 16 times, making 13 of them.

The Trae Young/John Collins connection was working beautifully, as typified by this sterling sequence:

With his trip-dub, Trae delivered just the 49th triple-double in Atlanta Hawks history, and the first since Al Horford did it in January of 2015.

JC 30/20 Game

Speaking of something that hasn’t been done recently in Atlanta Hawks history, John Collins delivered an incredible 33-point, 20-rebound game against the Nets last night on the back of 7 offensive boards.

John’s 29-minute night were tour de force of effort, energy and intensity, and the Nets were powerless to stop it.

John shot over 65 percent from the field last night and 77.8 percent from the line to help his cause. This 30-point, 20-rebound game was the first for the Atlanta Hawks since Kevin Willis did it in 1993.

JC is only the 10th player to produce such a terrific stat line in Atlanta Hawks history.
