A few takeaways and statistics from the Atlanta Hawks loss versus the Portland Trail Blazers.
For the second and final time this season, the Atlanta Hawks faced off against the Portland Trail Blazers. The first time, the Hawks lost by 9 points in Portland. Tonight, the Hawks were blown out by 20 as Damian Lillard dropped 36 points in 32 minutes of action.
This was a pretty ugly game all around for the Hawks, as no Hawks player had a positive on/off rating. The Hawks’ two highest scorers, Trae Young and John Collins, combined to shoot 18 of 41 from the field for 41 points (including an unsightly 2 of 13 from deep).
Let’s explore the stats.

This was the margin that the Trail Blazers out-rebounded the Atlanta Hawks in last night’s game. Normally, John Collins would be vacuuming up rebounds with ease around the basket but, for some reason, Collins ended the game with more assists (3) than boards (2). The Blazers had 55 rebounds to the Hawks’ 41.

16 points was the decisive run that the Blazers went on in the 3rd quarter to put the game away. Though the Atlanta Hawks were only outscored by 5 points in the quarter, that unanswered run from Portland really iced the game as Trae Young and John Collins both sat for an extended period.
23.7
This was the three-point shooting percentage that the Atlanta Hawks finished the game with. They ended the game going 9 of 38 from distance. Not ideal. Just looking at four of the Hawks starters, Young, Collins, Kevin Huerter and Dewayne Dedmon, they combined for an atrocious 4 of 21 showing from long-distance. Just to reiterate: Not ideal.
25
This was the number of shot attempts Trae Young had tonight against the Blazers. While Ice Trae did score 26 points on those attempts that is a notable total due to it being his second-highest career total of field goal attempts in a game in his career so far. The only other time was when he attempted a whopping 33 in the nutso quadruple-overtime game against the Chicago Bulls.
The Atlanta Hawks play next on Sunday afternoon against the Milwaukee Bucks. Keep it locked to Soaring Down South, as always, for your Hawks news and updates.
