#16. Orlando Magic – Kevin Porter
For a while, the Orlando Magic were teetering on the precipice of missing the playoffs for yet another season. However, thanks to the exploits of newly minted All-Star Nikola Vucevic (who the Atlanta Hawks might target in free agency), Orlando were able to right the ship and will face off against the Toronto Raptors in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Though the team has outperformed expectations for much of the season, there is one area where the team sorely needs to upgrade: In the backcourt.
D.J. Augustin has had an excellent season this year, even going so far as to completely fake out Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks with this smooth move:
However, Augustin is more of a game manager and backup PG-type than a go-to, “every-down” kind of point guard. With the 16th pick, the Magic should prioritize an on-ball scorer in the backcourt. With Kevin Porter still on the board out of USC, Orlando would be in good shape at the two guard spot.
With excellent athleticism, beautiful ballhandling skills and a versatile shot, Porter should be able to slot in easily on many rosters – despite an underwhelming college campaign in Southern California.
