Atlanta Hawks 2018-19 Season In Review: Kevin Huerter
By Dallin Duffy
Season Grade: A
The 19th overall pick turned into a top-10 rookie, and that’s really as simple as it gets when putting a grade on Huerter’s season.
Usually with rookies, you talk about how they developed their confidence and court presence as the season went on. Huerter had both of those out the gates.
He solidified himself as a quality starter that can take, make and set up big shots, and quickly rose the ranks of the best players on the Hawks.
At season’s end he was one of Atlanta’s most reliable scorers and one that never feels like he is taking a bad shot, or rushing one.
The veteran-like presence he brings as a 20-year-old is encouraging, and then some. Only time will tell, but the future is bright for Huerter to join the NBA’s top shooters.
He can also dish it out when appropriate and gets a good amount of steals and forced turnovers with his solid defense.
Huerter will be 21 when next season rolls around, and barring a major free agent singing, will be the Hawks’ opening day starting shooting guard. You should be excited about that.
As for now, we’ll see if he’ll make an appearance at summer league this season, and continue arguing over what red hair-orientated nickname fits him best.
