#22. Boston Celtics – Tyler Herro
Perhaps the only holdover from our previous mock draft due to the fluid nature of our Tankathon simulation, Tyler Herro serves as the fourth and final selection of the first round for the Boston Celtics in the 2019 NBA Draft.
With their own pick, the C’s could opt for a solid three-and-D option out of Kentucky, who widely outplayed expectations and surged up draft boards after a sterling showing in the NCAA Tournament – especially against 2-seed Houston:
Herro flashed solid scoring chops in his lone season at Kentucky (14 points per game, 17.2 points per 40 minutes), and his shot-creation ability would be something that he would be able to employ on bench units for the Celtics.
Of course, most (if not all) of the Atlanta Hawks choices in this draft will likely be made for another team as part of an Anthony Davis (or other superstar) trade so that the C’s can entice Kyrie Irving to stay for another year and try and win.
This offseason is huge for the Celtics, but if they don’t trade any (or all) of their picks, Herro is a fairly safe, high-floor bet in the first round.
